As a rule, the course of study takes 6 semesters. After passing the bachelor thesis you will receive the degree Bachelor of Science.
What can you expect during your studies?
60 percent of the basic study period is located at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and includes lectures in technical mechanics, design and materials science as well as scientific lectures and basic electrical engineering. In order to deepen and test theoretical knowledge, laboratory work is planned in courses such as Electrical Engineering and Materials Science. In the course of the bachelor's programme, a 52-week company internship must be completed. Contents should be basics in metalworking.
In addition, an 80-hour school internship in vocational pedagogy must be completed, during which the first lessons are prepared, planned and carried out. In addition to teaching and learning methods, vocational pedagogy also provides students with psychological knowledge. Subject-specific content is provided for the teaching subject, depending on the student's choice. At the end of the bachelor's programme, a bachelor's thesis must be written. The various institutes of mechanical engineering or/and the Institute for Vocational Science of Metal Technology are suitable for this. Detailed information can be found on the website of the Leibniz School of Education.
Areas of activity
Graduates of the bachelor's programme can follow a master's programme in order to work as teachers at vocational schools. A subsequent subject-specific Master's degree course is also possible. The bachelor's degree after six semesters is also a first degree that qualifies for work in the field of vocational education and training.
